We took a wonderful trip with my family to Whistler and Vancouver earlier this month. I have to break up the blog post because there are just too many pictures and not enough time! We actually spent the first part of the week in Whistler, but my Vancouver pictures are ready, so I'm going to blog about the trip backwards!
We stayed at one of the Fairmont hotels in downtown Vancouver, and to say that the hotel was nice, would be a gigantic understatement. It was easily one of the nicest hotels I've ever been to, in the perfect location (right on the harbor), and had gorgeous views.
A few shots from our balcony:
The first day we got to Vancouver we went to Granville Island, which is an island that is literally under one of the main Vancouver bridges. It has a large open market, fun parks for kids, restaurants, and art museums. It was very fun and we wished we had more time there.
Allie loved feeding all the pigeons. Those of you that know me, know that I hate pigeons, so this was not my favorite part of the trip!
Our first full day in Vancouver we took a boat to Victoria, an island near Vancouver and the capital of British Columbia. Along the way we took a couple hour detour to go whale watching.
Tim and Sarah dressed for the elements!
The best of our "family pictures" taken on the boat. Not that great, but it proves we were there! :)
Before we saw whales, we watched the skyline of Vancouver disappear.
And we saw seals.
Resting her eyes in preparation for whale watching.
We had success seeing whales. Allie kept saying "big fish swimming". When the whales would go down, she would say, "where'd it go?". And then when the whales reemerged, she would point and say "there it is". Dan was holding her for the whale watching and said she was really good at spotting them and would see them before he would see them. It was so fun!
After whale watching we arrived in Victoria. Victoria's harbor is beautiful and the city looked even more beautiful. Dan and I want to go back when we can spend a little more time exploring.
The Empress Hotel, where we had lunch in Victoria.
Not a bad way to get to work every day! :)
After lunch we went to the Butchart Gardens. Victoria is known for them and they definitely rivaled many of the gardens I've seen in Europe. We had to take an almost hour long bus ride to get there. After a 4 hour boat ride, Allie was not impressed with having to stay contained for even more time. She was a trooper though, but this facial expression says it all!
Absolutely stunning!
On our last day we went to Stanley Park where we took a horse carriage around the park, went to the Vancouver Aquarium, and then Dan went swimming with Allie. It was a day devoted to Allie since she was such a great sport the day before on 6 hours of boat rides and a one hour bus ride.
Stanley Park.
Reposting this picture because I love it so much. Getting ready to go swimming with daddy.
Hanging out with Aunt Sarah. Allie LOOOOVES her Aunt Sarah!
I loved Vancouver and asked Dan if Cargill had anything there in the hopes maybe we would get transferred there next. No such luck, so we'll just continue to enjoy Saskatoon while we are here!
